We worked with some of our closest partners to make a series of videos that will update you on all the good work that went on – despite the pandemic.

The Wilkes Fresh Mobile Market got its start in 2019, selling local, fresh fruits and vegetables all around our rural county in North Carolina. Wilkes Fresh is a true collaborative project, with support from state and local partners. This includes both the vital funding for the project, and volunteers who trekked around the county, setting up the market place, offering cooking tips to customers, and packing everything back up.

Resiliency is knowing how to cope when difficult things are happening. The Health Foundation is spearheading an effort to make Wilkes County a more resilient community through a few different ways, including a program called Reconnect for Resilience. RFR addresses the impacts of chronic, toxic stress and teaches coping skills to deal with stressful situations as they arise.

The Health Foundation took the Safe Spot Child Advocacy Center of Wilkes under its wing with the closure of its parent agency earlier this year. We are providing management and financial oversight while the agency works to become an accredited CAC and a standalone non-profit.

Substance use disorder is extremely common in Wilkes County, to devastating effect. That’s why The Health Foundation is working with a team of community partners to implement roads to treatment, recovery, and reintegration.
