Funding Opportunities for Nonprofits Serving Wilkes County, North Carolina

We have a few different grant opportunities available to meet the various needs of the organizations we support. All applications are available through the same portal.

    • Challenge Grants: Challenge Grants are designed to help your organization encourage support from individuals in order to help you build a sustainable, comprehensive fundraising program. If yours is a mature, robust fundraising effort, please contact us before applying. Competitive awards are made to organizations whose programs and services meet an identified health care need in our community. You must also have a fundraising event or plan designed to secure unrestricted support for your organization. Deadline: March 15, 2024.
    • Healthy Futures: Healthy Futures grants provide support for building projects, equipment purchases, general program support, expansion of program services, and training. You must complete a Letter of Interest in order to receive access to the full application. Healthy Futures grants are accepted on a rolling basis. For a timely decision, please submit your request prior to one of these dates in 2024: January 25th, April 25th, July 25th, October 1st. Decisions are made quarterly.
    • Mini Grants: The Mini Grant is designed to create healthy eating, active living, and/or mental health/resiliency projects that are tailored to a community’s needs. Where we live, learn, work, play and pray influence our health. Partner with us to create homegrown projects to help our community feel better and live healthier! Awards range from $250–$2500 per project. Deadline: June 14th and September 30th.
    • Opioid Settlement Funds: In 2022 North Carolina signed on to a historic $26 billion settlement agreement to bring needed relief to communities suffering the effects of the over-prescription and marketing of opioids. Wilkes County is receiving over $23 million as its share of the settlement. Payments commenced in 2022 and will be received by county government through 2038. The Health Foundation is working with Wilkes County Government to ensure the funds are distributed in accordance with the state guidelines while also addressing community priorities. Deadline: March 8, 2024 by 5pm.

The Health Foundation, Inc. supports programs and services that improve the health and well-being of the people in our communities. Support is generally limited to non-profit organizations with tax exempt status or governmental entities.
